Interviewing
Interviewing can be the most nerve-wracking part of a job hunt. It’s a big deal to be invited to talk with the hiring company, so being prepared can help it go smoothly and help you feel calm and ready.
Below are a few strategies you might find useful on a day to day and week to week basis to keep your progress going.
Getting Ready for an Interview
If this is a new role or field for you, use your network or search for commonly asked interview questions, then prepare a few bullet point answer and practice with someone else.
Come in with questions about the company, about the role and its future. The questions should reflect your interest in the role and your knowledge of the company. This isn’t about compensation (there will be time for that), it is about determining whether you are comfortable and excited about what they have to offer.
If you can, scope out what kind of clothing is most often worn by people in the role and at the company you will be interviewing. Present yourself professionally – whether in person or over Zoom.
Finally, before you go in or log on, take a few minutes for a deep breathing exercise or stretch to release some of the tension.
